Quality Assurance Procedures and Methods
Callisto is a SME working in the area of space technology. This field of work requires high standards of quality assurance (QA). Callisto’s principle customer is the European Space Agency (ESA). Although ESA does not currently require its contractors to operate under a formal QA regime such as being ISO9000 qualified, it is becoming increasing important to develop standards within contracting organisations which approach or better ISO9000 standards. Coupled with this is the development in the ESA arena of a set of QA standards under the umbrella of the ECSS.

Callisto has already started on developing various internal procedures and documents with the aim of eventually conforming to ISO and ECSS standards. The project concerned is to develop additional written procures in this area. It is also an aim to develop some IT tools to assist with the day- to-day implementation of these procedures within the office PC network.

The particular activities required are:

• Development of procedures for the control of procurement of materials and components.
• Evaluation of methods and tools for continuous evaluation of suppliers.
• Development of methods and tools for control of procurements budgets.
• Specification of database tools for the configuration control of documents, drawings and other project related information.
• Training of staff in the use of the developed procedures and methods.

This project would suit a student studying Management related to Engineering or an Engineering student interested in Management and/or Quality Assurance. Suggested level BAC + 4. A level of competence in IT would be beneficial. A good level of competence in written English is essential.
