New Callisto Triband X/S/Ka cryogenic LNA for VLBI / Radioastronomy

Callisto is
pleased to announce the delivery of a Triband Cryogenic LNA System to the
German BKG (Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie), for use in VLBI radio
astronomy.

This cryogenic microwave LNA system includes 6 RF chains in a compact, robust and orientation free vacuum enclosure. The RF chains are divided into 3 bands: X band, S band and Ka band:

  •             the X and Ka chains have waveguide inputs and they include waveguide couplers for  calibration and testing.
  •             the S band chains are coaxial inputs and they also include coaxial couplers.

The system also features a special cryocooler mount to allow fast and easy extraction of the cryogenic refrigerator. This patented 'sleeve' system enables removing the cooler without dismounting the Dewar from the antenna, even without opening the Dewar and dismounting the RF components fixed on the cooler. This significantly reduces the down-time of the antenna and the man-power required when the cryocooler has to be serviced.
